Help!
I'm way to confused to know exactly what to ask. I recently got a system with a dvd burner installed. I was told (big fat lie) that I could just copy a dvd to my hard drive and then burn a new copy! Bet that guy lies for sex too!
So, what do I do? It appears from reading a bunch of postings ans web sites that VCD copies are not near as clear a a dvd. Is that really the case. Will the average gal notice it or will I have to be really picky? Does the dolby digital come across or am I in something ugly like mono or plain stereo?
What I would really love is a way to re burn dvd's. Is it possible? I tried to use smart ripper and then re burn the dvd after purchasing Nero, but couldn't figure out how the heck to do it? would it work?
Please help me! I'm not blond (auburn), but feel that way!
Thanks for any help or links!!

You can still do DVD to DVD-R copies, but if your source DVD is dual-layer, it will require a little work. There should be a guide posted, and searching the forums will provide plenty of information about how to do this.
VCD or SVCD will take just as long as a DVD transcode, so you shouldn't waste your time with those formats if you have a DVD-burner available. -
Kinneera,
Ok, now I'm really lost. How the heck do I find out if the dvd is a dual layer or not?
Are you familiar with any specific software or programs to use for this process? Will Nero work for the burn Part? -
There are a couple of ways to determine if you have a dual-layer DVD. The first is to hold it at an angle in some light - if it reflects a golden color it is dual layer, whereas if it reflects a more CD-ish silver it is probably single-layer.
A more foolproof method is to use a DVD ripping program, such as Smartripper. If the size of the main title is >4.3 GB, you have a dual-layer disc, since that is the physical size limit of a single-layer disc.
From what I hear, newer versions of Nero can be used to burn to DVD-Rs (you have to use UDF/ISO-9660 bridge mode, I think), although it would strike me as a bit odd if some sort of DVD-authoring tool wasn't included with your DVD-burner.
