  1. Hi, I was wondering how much quality I can expect to lose by converting SCVD to XVCD? Will it be a noticeable amount?

  3. Look to the left.

    How to...convert.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  4. Forgive my ignorance, but I don't see anything about SVCD to VCD or XVCD.

Hmmm... you're right there's no mention of how to convert between *VCD formats. But VCD and XVCD is MPG1 and SVCD and XSVCD are MPG2 and it can convert both way quite easily using only TMPGEnc Just look in the How to... Convert and look up on using TMPGEnc to make VCD/XVCD and load the original SVCD as the source. Converting from SVCD/XSVCD to VCD you will see a slight reduction in video quality as the VCD uses smaller screen resolution. There's no specific standard on XVCD

  6. If your dvdplayer suports 480*480 xvcd's, you could convert the mpg2 to mpg1 without re-encoding it. Just multiplex with the original mpeg2 file as both audio and video source, and tell tmpgenc to output it as a mpeg1 videocd. Should play just fine if your player can play 480*480

  7. hi there Dj thats exactly what Im trying to do but Tmpgenc just freezes..I tried it several times..any clues why??
    I have a Amd 1600Xp 256 Ram 100gig hd geforce 2 ti....
since my player supports 480x480 I would love to multiplex my SVCDs so I can watch them on my standalone player

  8. hmmm...
have you tried to use the cut tool to output it as a mpeg1? that might work. If not, try to first de-multiplex the file and then multiplex it back together.
    Hope it helps.

  9. Ive tried the simple multilexing but it didnt work so well...actually the program itself freezes and the output file size is 0
I know it works because 2 weeks before I did a simple multiplex from the same svcd but now it doesnt and I really dont know why???!!
I was glad I did it that way because I got the same quality on Vcd as the SVCD which is good since my Standalone doesnt play Svcd but Vcd and Xvcd
and what do you mean by using the cut tool??? could you explain it a lil more to me?

  10. I meant "merge & cut" within tmpgenc mpeg tools.
But have when you multiplex it, have you left it alone for a while?
When i multiplex, tmpgenc always stops responding for 20 min or so, and the output file is 0mb form maybe 10 min before it starts getting bigger

  11. yes I did left it alone for about 30 min...and I then used the ctrl alt del keys to check if the program itself is still running but it wasnt it crashed
I dont have a clue why...I would buy me another standalone but I just bought this one 2 weeks ago...
