I'm clear on the significance of height and width divisible by 16.
My question is - if this is the case, why does ffmpegX only post an alert when the width is not divisible?
Using 480x270 as an example, why no alert stating 270 is not evenly divisible by 16?

It may depend on the video codec and/or encoding engine.
If ffmpeg allows encoding to e.g. XviD AVI at 480x270, then ffmpegX should allow it too.
