My question: Can I set the aspect ratio that the media player will default to depending on the broadcast stream.

I'm trying to be able to broadcast a video stream within my company. I have everything streaming and almost everything is dandy. We are going to be using a HD channel two days out of the week and a SD channel two other days (since they do not offer the SD channel in HD....yet....).

When I provide the mms:// link to someone, it defaults to the wrong resolution. It defaults to 4:3 rather then 16x9. I would ideally like it to output to 16x9 so the people within my company are not adjust their settings (as that would be horrible for myself to teach everyone how to do this). I've looked around in Star Media Center but cannot find the option to "broadcast" at a certain resolution. Also, if we switch to the SD programming, the resolution would have to be changed....again.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Information:
    Capture Card: BlackMagic Intensity Pro
    OS: XP Vista 64
    RAM: 2 mb
CPU: Core 2 Duo at 2.66GHz
    Program: Star Media Center (latest)

Output it as 1:1 so there player doesn't have to think about it. WMP is not very good at obeying aspect ratios.

It is not just WMP that has problems. VLC, Real Player, and WMP are all giving me a 4:3 resolution.

I am outputting video at 720x576. There is no 1:1 broadcast option.

I'm starting to wonder if Star Media Center is worth it's salt.

It sounds like the aspect ratio flag is not being inserted into the stream, so all players simply interpret the file as a 720 x 576 video with a 1:1 PAR.

What resolutions are available ? Perhaps there is a 1.778 resolution option

Given it is a free solution, you can't really complain if it doesn't cover all bases.

    No, I really cannot complain

Windows Media Encoder does everything I want....but after about an hour or half....the end users stream gets really bad and craps out after a few moments.

I'll take a screenshot once I get the computer up and running again, been very hectic here lately so I have not had a chance to hop back online.

    Thanks!
