VASST has a product called Gearshift which is described on their website:

GEARSHIFT is a tool that will allow HDV users to convert their files to the Sony 4:2:2 YUV codec, which is a superior method of working towards professional HD output.

I use Vegas Pro 8. Is there a benefit to using this plugin with HDV video?

In pro edit houses HDV is often bumped up to uncompressed 4:2:2 to match other uncompressed 4:2:2 source. expect the file size to grow about 40x. A RAID would be needed to play it.

If you are editing in an HDV project, I don't see how this would add any quality.
