Very commonly available in China is a portable mosquito/fly zapper for less than $3. (See picture). On the metal grid is about 1500 volts. This makes a slight hissing sound because the air is ionized. When a mosquito or fly hits the grid, it explodes with a loud crack, bright flash and is vaporized. There is no residue. The zapper includes 2 rechargeable AA batteries and charger. If you're on a budget, there are lower voltage models (about 500 volts) for about $2 that don't include the rechargeable batteries/charger. Actually the lower voltage models might be better because the mosquito/fly may be wary of hissing sound that the 1500 volt model makes. Happy zapping.

You can find these in dollar stores, RV/Camping supply and a few other places. We've got a couple...
They work quite well. -
I think I've got one of the lower voltage ones, takes a single AA battery. Great fun when you get some unsuspecting friend to touch the live grid, and watch them jump ! heh heh. Hate to think what the higher voltage one will do.
