    Hi, everyone.

I have a situation here which I can't find the explanation for!

I'm using Epson - Stylus Photo RX560 for printing on Verbatim 16x DVD+R 4,7GB Photo Printable and the thing is - the ink won't dry on them, I mean I have some discs that I printed on more than 2 weeks ago and they still smear
I use only genuine Epson cartridges and when I printed on these cheap Mirror Discs the result was perfect - the image wouldn't smear straight out of the printer

I used to have Epson R800 and used it on the same Verbatims, and it was perfect - dry straight out.
But, the thing is that I changed the printer and a new spindle of discs probably at the same time and a few of those from the old spindle that I printed on a new printer are OK, but I'm not sure about that, they could just have been printed with the old R800 (hope it's not too confusing).

So, my question is, could it be the bad spindle of discs or should I look for the problem with the printer, or both?

Thanks a lot in advance for any advice or suggestion.

    P.S.

On any other media (photo paper, regular paper etc. and even those cheap Mirror discs) the printer prints perfectly!

i am not familiar with the 560 but it may use pigment based ink, and not dye based. it may make a difference on the coating.

    Thanks, aedipuss for your reply.

And does that mean that I should stay away from those Verbatim Discs and look for an alternative or...?

    Thanks again.

What the heck is "photo printable"? Why don't they just call them "ink jet printable" so you know what kind of printer they work with?

Anyway, I'm guessing that what gets sold here in the USA as "ink jet printable" Verbatim discs are equivalent to this. I've bought these and they don't dry very quickly. I'm not sure that it's a dye thing so much as the material that the discs are made of. Yes, Verbatim's discs, all of the ink jet printable ones that I have used, take quite a while to fully dry. That's just how it is. You might consider instead buying some of Taiyo Yuden's Watershield DVD-R discs. Those discs do dry fast and the color resists smearing and water quite well. Unfortunately the website you listed does not list these. I know that these Taiyo Yuden discs are sold in the UK, so maybe you can buy them online from a seller there. Do note that Taiyo Yuden only sells Watershield discs in DVD-R format (at least in the USA, so it might be true elsewhere). If you must have DVD+R then perhaps the Verbatim glossy surface discs (Watershield has a glossy surface) will work better for you. I have never used these discs. I have bought several types of ink jet, hub printable Verbatim discs in the USA and they all have a flat surface that doesn't dry quickly.

    Thanks, jman98 for your reply.

I guess they are the same discs as "ink jet printable" but called differently.
And yes, I was thinking about getting TY Watershield ones, like you said, from the UK here, but I was afraid that if the ink doesn't dry on a matte surface, on a glossy one it would be even worse. But if you say they can give better results I might take a plunge and order them.

I just wish there was someone out there with the same printer or at least the printer that uses the same ink, which is Claria ink, that could confirm what discs are best for it.

    Thanks again.
