I'm confused. I was told I needed a dvd burned inorder to rip a movie. O have a regular dvd rom and cd writer. Also....do I need special cd's I've been using memorex rewritable platinum.
This is where I get stuck....when I;m in tmpge and try to save to an out put file I put m:\ and the name and vcd.mpg. Screen pops up and says I need permission to access this file or incorrect file path given.
any help very much appreciated.

Are you using Win XP as your OS ? In the older v2.5 versions of TMPG you need to be logged in as an Admin to use it. Ver 2.51 fixed it I believe

Spidey thanks for the prompt reply. I have ME.
Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong? I've gone over the tutorials a thousand times.
Thanks!!! -
Just curious and it might help answer your question...what steps did you take previous to tmgpenc?
-
Well...I tried the tutorials step by step. I used smartripper for the copying and DVD2AVI for the frame...and then tmgpenc. Is it because I need a dvd burner? Like I said I have a regular dvd drive and a cd-writer drive. The guy at best buy said I needed a special dvd drive?
Thanks so much! -
Don't listen to the guys at the store...I say that far more than half don't know what they're talking about. You can rip a DVD with a DVDrom and burn with a CD burner.
I'm curious....you have an "M" drive? Have you tried saving to a different drive? Have you tried calling the output file a different name? Have you tried browsing to save your output file elsewhere? -
Thanks so much for replying.
The m drive is my cd drive. As for your other question...I think I have. I've done the tutorials so many times I've lost track at what I've done. I'm very confused. :} -
You have in fact answered your problem in your last post.
You stated that when encoding, you point the OUTPUT file to M:, which you state is your CDROM.
Do everything the same, except, point the output to one of your hardrives, then use your burner software to burn as VCD, this will create the required ,dat files,
hope this helpsTOMMO -

He means that after you encode your movie you'll need mastering software that can burn VCD's or SVCD's. The software will find the cd burner if it's supported. I use Nero 5.5.7.2 but there are many programs that can do this. You can check out the authoring how tos for burning with different programs and most are easy to use. One point to remember- you can put 740 mgs of VCD or SVCD on a 650/74min disc or 800 mgs on a 700/80 min due to the way the VCD and SVCD use the sectors (they don't need error correction). Use TMPGenc to cut the files so they'll fit.

Thanks Chemcat i actually got as far as burning with nero. When I put it in the dvd drive.....it worked but played the first few seconds I would fast forward and that was all that was there.....the same scene. It was a movie that was already in half one I downloaded.
Thanks again. Hope to figure this out sometime
