I have a few xvid files that are over a gig, my LG dvd player won't play em. The same player has no issues with files that are around 700mb. Suggestions?

Are you sure it's the size of the video stream, not the audio giving you problems? For example audio might be vorbis, or VBR causing some standalone players to choke.
Sometimes it's the XviD settings that cause incompatiblity: sometimes packed bitstream, gpel, gmc
Use mediainfo on your problematic file and functioning files to determine more info on why it's not working, and why other files work.
If this is the case, one option is to re-encode them with the proper audio & codec settings /bitrate compatible with your player. I would use a small test file to save time (like 10seconds) for testing compatibility. If your players accepts usb keys it's even easier than using DVD-RW's, otherwise you may have to go through a few coasters. -
Or, if the XviD settings are otherwise OK with your player, just split them into 2 pieces.

Virtualdub is close to one click, however if the problem is with the way the file was encoded, splitting it will not make any difference.
try re-encoding with AVI Recomp first.Read my blog here.
