    Hello everybody,

I am trying to find a tool that would allow to add up subtitles to a DVD (AFTER the DVD has been created; no original subtitles on the DVD) and to synchronize the subs with the audio if required.

I tried SubtitlesCreator. Based on the features list, it should be a nice tool. But it looks like it is full of bugs. I cannot load a DVD into it though installed K-lite codec pack as was instructed.

I tried the Wizard but it did not work properly and I decided to shut down it. As a result a DVD that has nothing to do with the subtiltes tries was destroyed - most VOB just disappeared from the hard drive. I would agree that it could be me doing something wrong though.

What other (not too complicated) tools can be used for the purpose? Thank you!

P.S. I am still trying to load a DVD into SC but everytime I get error message that "SC preferred decoder" must be installed.

As far as I understand it requires a mpeg2 dvd decoder. I checked ffdshow installed on my PC and enabled MPEG2 codec but no result.

AS I wrote I have installed K-lite codes pack as the software requires but I still get the error message and cannot load DVD.

    Thanks.

    Hello Baldrick,

Thank yoг for your as usually useful advice. I read reviews for all the three and it looks like that Substation should be the easiest one for my purposes.

I still hope to properly install SC to be able to load DVDs. I read your guides for SC. You mentioned in one of them that to be able to open DVD with SC MPEG2 decoder must be installed.

I enabled MPEG2 ( ) in ffdshow video decoder (libavcodec). I also checked
"DVD Decoding" (just below the window with the codecs names). But I still cannot load DVD - it requires "SC prefered DVD decoder".

What am I doing wrong? Thank you!

Need more info. Which of these are you doing?

    1) Your original DVD lacks subtitles, but you found a subtitles file on the internet for the movie and need to add it. If it's this, are you going to have to convert the times from PAL to NTSC or vice-versa?
    2) You are trying to create a subtitles file completely from scratch yourself.

K-lite is said to cause more problems than it solves. Installing a commercial DVD player software program like WinDVD or PowerDVD might solve your decoding problem.

    Thanks!

""you found a subtitles file on the internet for the movie and need to add it" - Correct! I try to locate .srt files with 25 fps for PAL as DVD is PAL but the audio and the subtitles do not match anyway.

"If it's this, are you going to have to convert the times from PAL to NTSC or vice-versa?" - A little confusing to me.

I could be wrong but I assume that if a .srt file is for 25 fps, it is for PAL and do not convert it. Actually I do not know how to convert them.

About K-lite - do I need it for SC? Wouldn't be just ffdshow enough?

I hve already NeroShowTimes and MPC installed and WinPlayer somewhere behind the scene (I disabled it). Do I really need another one?

    Thanks!

Create a temporary standalone .mpg from your .VOBs and
use Subtitle Workshop or something for adjusting the subtitle timings.
Later you'll need to convert the corrected subtitle text to a file format that
    can be "swallowed" by MuxMan/dvdauthor/whatever.

Thank you! Yes, it could be one of the ways to do it but wouldn't it be a too complicated procedure? It looks like it would be time consuming if to do it on a regular basis.

As you yourself said, you want to add subtitles to an already-authored
DVD-Video --- which was NOT designed to be easily modified/re-edited.
Besides, your OS appears to have problems with DVD-playback.
Sorry, but there are no easy solutions for this type of situation.

    MIdszuki, Thanks!

You just gave me an idea.

Wouldn't it be easier to create a DVD (I convert mkv file into DVD with ConverXtoDVD and add up subtitles at the same time) and if the subtitles do not match the audio to synchonize it?

If it is easier to do, what program would be the simpleast one to use? Thanks.
