Firefox ascii encodes addresses with a hyphen on the Windows 2003 IIS6 server.

    www.domain.com/this-site turns into
    www.domain.com/this%2Dsite

    It's fugly.

Wordpress does not do this, nor do other servers. Something is set wrong. Googling is useless, as I don't know what to look up, and you cannot search for "%2D" as a term.

Ideas? Somebody here surely has IIS6 servers.

IIRC, sometime before Google had been invented, yes it was possible to
search for "%2D" as a term. In those good old days, Altavista even registered things
that were not apparent to the web browser BUT that were present in the HTML-code
of the page Today we must be prepared to be victims of the stupid "page ranks"
    and similar idiocies.

    P.S.: On 2008/03/10@23:15GMT, the URL
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22stupid+page+ranks%22&btnG=Google+Search

Your search - "stupid page ranks" - did not match any documents.

  3. Couldn't agree more. Google drives me up the f**king wall with its complete ignorance of punctuation. I really miss the original Altavista.

Anyway, the phrase to use for searching is URL escape codes

PS: "stupid page ranks" will appear soon. VideoHelp posts show up very quickly (the opening post for this thread is already there).

Well... not very soon, and not about this thread (as already expected, N.B.):

  5. Hmm. Perhaps it only looks at the first post in a thread. Perhaps it knows it's me.

Well I don't know much about character encoding and even less about windows servers but I'm sure thats the reuslt of the character encoding the server is using for the the url's. Simple fix is get LAMP server, why you still messing around with Windows?

I would rather be using Apache 1.3.x and WarFTPd.

The enterprise-grade equipment runs Windows. This is for work.
Suggestions for other OS/servers is a waste of typing.
