  1. I just bought the DV-220V in Canada, tried one DVD region 2, PAL - it gave me a message that can't play the region number. I have played other DVDs from region 2 though... Could PAL be the reason for not working?

Does this model play region 2 disks, and do you know a hack to change the region?

It's hard to say. DVDs are not restricted to only one region so you could possibly have had a DVD that wasn't limited to only region 2. Or your other region 2 DVDs could be from Japan and that takes PAL out of the equation.

You'll have to search for a hack. I did a quick search for you and it wasn't encouraging. All I could find was one dumbass who said on another forum that the player didn't need a hack because it was "region free and played PAL DVDs out of the box". Well, that MIGHT be true if you live in New Zealand, but the part about being region free almost certainly is not true anywhere else this player is sold.

Check the TV output setting and see if you can change it to NTSC from either ANY or MULTI. If you don't see any TV output setting, then the player may not be capable of converting PAL DVD output to NTSC. You'll need either a multi-standard TV (extremely rare - you'd know if you had one) or an HDTV capable of displaying PAL signals (some HDTVs can, some can't. Samsung CANNOT.).
