the difference is that gold doesn't oxidize. no corrosion make for a better electrical connection.

And there is so little gold on those connections so the cost difference should be miniscule. If you see a big difference in price you are about to be ripped off. Don;t buy your cables at BestBuy Circuit City, Staples, Officemax, Office Depot and their ilk. If Walmart stocks your cable it will be cheaper. Else look for a good price online.Originally Posted by aedipuss

Of course this assumes the equipment you are connecting to also have gold connectors throughout. Maybe the Space Shuttle but I doubt even that has all gold connectors.Originally Posted by aedipussRecommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

I heard somewhere that gold cables could actually turn
out to be dangerous. To Players and Tv's -
I was in a Best Buy Magnolia center yesterday returning a defective Philips HD TV, when I saw a 10 ft HDMI cable priced at $275.00. Folks, thats just ridiculous. Must be a 2000% markup. When I asked the Best Buy rep he said it was well worth it for the bandwidth! I told him he didn't have a clue! The Best Buy execs need to seriously evaluate their sales tactics this amounts to fraudulent representation. If you want a good quality HDMI cable Monoprice.com has reasonable prices. Their 6 ft HDMI cable goes for about $6.00 plus shipping.

Ridiculously priced cables of all types for home audio and video applications has been a long standing racket. There are people that need that warm and fuzzy feeling that they have "the best" and because of that, they are HUGE suckers for the "wonder-cable" pitch.

They get most of their profits and sales comissions from pushing the extras. Same as the window tinting, decals and extended warranties when you buy a car. Understand that you don't want to buy this stuff. Insist on a clean deal.Originally Posted by BobTRecommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
