  1. Ok. I don't know much about formats like avi etc.. but I want to do one or all of the foolowing things if possible...
I want to download movies from the web and put them on a CD-R/CD-RW
I want to Copy a DVD (straight) to a CD-R/CD-RW is Possible
I want to watch these Movies on my PS2
I don't know if I it's even possible, Can I put dvd movies to a CD-R/CD-RW and watch them on a PS2 even if I have to use 2 disks? Basically...Can I Download a free program, rip the dvd and burn it to a CD-R? If not, what do I do? I know everyone must have asked this at least once so can someone explain to me in details what I should do? I don't want to spend money for DVD Burners or $20 DVD-R disks. SOMEBODY, PLEASE HELP!!!!

  2. PS2 doesn't read CD-R's i believe, so you're outta luck...

even if it does, it doesn't support SVCD, xVCD, and i think you need to buy some add-on to the PS2 to be able to play VCDs.

also, you can't copy DVDs straigt to CD-Rs...u need to go through a process...or use those all-in-one proggies.

I'm going to give you my hands on educated opinion about the whole backup thing.

First the prices have come down enough on the DVD-R writers to be competive to a CDR/W burner.
Second the price of discs are as low as 2.95 and they are quality discs.
It is a matter of knowing where to look.

Now your question of ripping and backing up. It's obvious from your questions that you have alot to learn. The keyword here is "learn". If you want to get into the realm of backing up movies you need to start out experimenting, reading guides, trying the different softwares, hunting down imfo on the web and getting a strong foothold into the "mechanics" of audio and video encoding.

There is no easy answer. Even those of us that have been doing it for along time need help.

  4. I know there is a procces in backing up movies, games etc.. I have an .avi movie file. If I want to burn that file to a CD-R/CD-RW or DVD-R I am guessing there is a long process I most do first. I am looking for an easy way to do all this. Even if I wont play on a PS2 as long as it will play on a DVD player. I don't want to buy software, books for stuff I wont know how to use.. PS2 do read CD-R's but do not read CD-RW's. Where are those all-in-one proggies.....
