  1. What is Batch mode editing in Virtualdub?

I tried Googling for answer but really did not come up with anything useful.
Is there a guild explaning what it is used for and how to use it?

Reason I ask is I have a file that contains commerals and I want to remove them and hopefully reduce the size of the file.

I tried using Virtualdub but instead of shrink the file size it grew to 1.5 to 2 times its original size.
Here is what I did. I cut and save the segments into individual files, then appended them into one file. I did use Direct stream copy.

Could I have used this batch mode to do it and would it reduce the size of the file?

  2. File size = bitrate * running time. Use a lower bitrate.

Batch mode lets you set up several conversions and then run them all (sequentially, without intervention) at a later time (overnight?). Probably not what you want...

Use mark-in and mark-out to mark the start and end of the commercials, then select Edit -> Cut (or press the Del key) to cut the commericials out. Repeat for each string of commercials. Encode what's left.

  3. Thanks jagabo,

Some how I just did not think of just deleting the unwanted segments.
What a simple solution to a problem. I feel brain dead it was so simple.

    Thanks again.

  4. You're welcome. Actually, many people don't realize you can use the mark-in and mark-out tools to cut out the unwanted segments.

With the latest versions of Virtualdub you can do exact frame editing with the Smart Render function and you can use the Fill filter in Blend mode with the Curve Editor to fade in and fade out at each section where you deleted the commercials.

The Help files will explain how to do this. There is also a Virtualdub forum...
