I do not understand "Suck an ase to use with many options and facilities". Are you saying that it is fantastic and it is easy to use with many options and facilities?

I am interested in this product as well. What is not clear to me (and maybe you can answer), does VideoStudio 6 let you create DVD's with DVD effects (i.e. menues, etc), like DVD Movie Factory? Or do I need DVD Movie Factory as well.

What I was saying is that this program is excellent and it's easy to use.
You can download the demo from the link below and check yourself. You do need the Moivie Factory to create smart menus etc, although in the description it says that you can do this with the program alone. I haven't tried this yet as I have MovieFactory and I will stick with this.

  4. If you like 6.0 buy 6.5, that one is really nice, a lot more options and CG Infinity is great too, to create your own titles, video efects and endless things, Video paint is great too.

You can burn your VCD, SVCD and DVD's from Media Studio Pro direct with menu, introductory file, customize your backgrounds, etc.

  5. I downloaded the trial version and a first pass look the only thing new is a new look, some additional effects and a new mpeg encoder (not ligos). The DVD authoring and burning is the same as the DVD Plug-in. It does not support multiple segments or changing the image in the thumbnail so you still need DVD Movie Factory.

Do you have a DV camera? I'm interested in the direct DV -> MPEG2 they advertise.

  7. Download the trial version and give it a try. I have a Sony DV TRV120 but capture and edit in DV avi. VS6 lets you edit by frame but does not indicate the I frame which means in most cases VS6 will rerender at the edit causing blocking. I have not tried mpeg editing with the new encoder but with VS5 the end result was unacceptable to me.

  8. I just downloaded the trial version of VS6 the other day, and it is VERY unstable on my system -- keeps freezing on the dumbest of things.

I use Pinnacle Studio DV 7, and it works beautifully. I don't know why so many people have a problem with it. I guess it goes to show that certain applications only like certain systems.

I capture & edit with DV 7, output to MPEG with DV 7, then use ULEAD DVD MovieStudio to piece segments together and make final movie for DVD-R.

Just like ULEAD VS6, ULEAD DVD MovieStudio is touchy and likes to freeze sometimes, however it gets the job done as a rule. When it does freeze, I always have to restart the computer -- major PAIN!! When PINNACLE Studio DV 7 freezes (on rare occasion), I simply restart the program with no problem.

  9. Is there any reason to upgrade from version 5.0 with DVD plug in? Also, does Pinnacle DV7 perform seamless capture?-this is a major advantage.

  10. It has a good interface, like Pinnacle Studio 7, but... svcd´s created with these programs have no quality compared to TmpgEnc. I have tested with a Hi8 camera the same clip, and with Ulead and Pinnacle software fast moving and dark scenes clearly show mpeg artifacts - while TmpgEnc produces a nice and clean output. Same problem with Intervideo Winproducer.

  11. I don't know if your ultimate detination is DVD but if your using fat32 you will run into the 4G file size limit with real time mpeg 2 capture

I have VS50 with the DVD plug-in and DVD MovieFactory and IMHO I see no need to change. VS50 had real time mpeg capture also but it would only capture in mono at DVD resolutions. Other than a looks and more effects I see nothing that warrents the cost. You 'may' want to look at the new mpeg encoder but IMHO it is not is the same league as TMPGEnc.

  12. I guess I'm at a loss as to why some people think TmpgEnc would be better than programs such as Pinnacle DV Studio 7 or Ulead VideoStudio 6. It may be better for very simple projects, and it may be better depending on your computer configuration and resources, and it may be better for "Hi-8" video (I simply don't know), but if you want to do some serious editing with advanced effects, and scene transitions, Pinnacle DV Studio 7 is great (at least for me)!

The other day, I tried several ways of encoding, and found the best way (for me) is to edit captured digital video with DV7, save to mpeg2 with DV7, then as I mentioned above, piece together with Ulead DVD MovieStudio and make final movie. I tried piecing DV7-created mpeg2's and avi's together with TmpgEnc in different tests, and encountered everything from audio pops to a high-pitched "beep" between scenes. The way that I do it, it's smooth as silk.

You can color correct and brighten/darken the finished product with all of these programs, so if there is any problem there, simply adjust it before making the final mpeg2's.

One word of advice: If you try using certain mp3's with DV7 as a background soundtrack, some of them might sound a little strange during playback in the editing window. This is due to crappy encoding of the mp3's, and the not the fault of DV7. Simply rip the bad mp3's in question to .wav files using Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0 Platinum, the "SoundStream" part of the program. Then, reverse the process -- make .mp3's out of the .wav's, again with "Soundstream"... This will correct the encoding problems with bad mp3's, and now you can use them with DV7. Other audio editing software might be able to fix them as well.

Back to the subject -- Are others having freeze-up problems with VideoStudio like I am?

  13. I am having freeze up problems with vs50 that have just begun. I was doing great for about 4 months (XP) and now will freeze when rendering my AVI capture. I am going to reinstall, hopefully that will cure it.

I use VS50 for it's seamless capture, since I use FAT32-does Pinnicle DV7 allow for this? Premiere and MGI Videowave III as well as Pinnicle DV do not.

  14. One more question-is there any reason to have Ulead DVD plug-in and Movie Factory? Don't they perform the same function?

Not Quite, DVDMFsupports multiple segments and you can choose the frame for your thumbnail.
