Unless I'm mistaken, it should still work. However, you won't be able to get full HD quality/resolution from a HD player. Standard DVD quality/resolution should be unaffected. And no, I've never seen a way to disable HDCP on any player.

The 841 remote control hack will work for upconverting via component video as well.

The HD-870's remote doesn't have an "Angle" button...any idea how to do it?

I know it's a strange place to learn about the player, but it is in the manual, page 21.

It does not work...I tried going into the Menu, selecting "Angle" then pressing 4,3,2,7, no HDCP Free message appeared and discs still don't work

  7. As far as I know the only way to get rid of HDCP is by using HD-Fury. I use it on my PS3 to connect it to my LCD-TFT which is a few years old. It should work for any HDCP source with the proper cabling. The only problem would be the playback of audio.

I thought you were referring to how to use the angle button.

You can't disable HDCP. The hacks referenced above, allow upconversion over component outputs.

  9. Anyone has a definite answer, that the HD870 cannot be hacked for HDCP that it can output HD through component?

What exactly are you wanting to do? You're mixing two separate issues into a single question. HDCP is ONLY used on HDMI connections and it cannot be disabled.

Upconversion over component connections is different and there are very few players that can be "hacked" to allow it.

Also, depending on your TV it is likely totally irrelevant. If you are using an LCD or plasma TV for example, ALL inputs get upconverted/downconverted to the native resolution of the display.
