  1. If i convert a video that is 656x304 to svcd 480x480, will the vertical size change cause blockiness since I am upsizing from 304 to 480? This is a widescreen dvd divx rip and I want to keep the black borders as if it was a normal dvd. Is it wise to go to svcd?

Also, I am still trying to decide if seperating the audio from the video is a good idea when converting divx to (s)vcd or if I should just use TMPGenc. to encode both from the original source.

if you use default settings in tmpgenc it usually will be correct ratio and black borders...use the preview window to check how it looks before encoding. and it is always wise to separate the audio because if the audio is vbr mp3 tmpgenc will complain or the audio will be out of sync.

  3. I see Mr Baldrick has a cunning plan! Yes indeed extracting the audio is always a good idea. I've noticed that a lot of divx movies actually have low volume sound. Extracting the audio gives you a chance to do some editing on it :)

A question for baldrick (I'm too lazy to start a new topic...sorry): If I extract the mpeg file from an svcd in NTSC format, then re-encode it in tmpgenc using the PAL template...what would my results be? Does tmpgenc automatically adjust the fps and size for me?

  4. thanks again Baldrick, it worked great as far as sound quality.
....but, at about 2/3 through the movie the audio lost sync with the video slightly. I am hoping this is not caused by poor performance by my dvd player. This is my first divx to svcd experience, hopefully the next one will work perfectly.
