    HELP! !

I got myself the LG RC797T to enjoy the 1080i upconvert and the QAM tuner to record channels I could not with my analog tuner VCR.

First problem: the upconvert. All 4:3 content is STRETCHED ! How can I watch a TV show on DVD upconverted without it stretching it ? Why aren’t upconverted 4:3 signals pillar boxed ?!?!?!

AND It turns out that I really didn’t get many “new” channels when I upgraded to this expensive piece of equipment, as Comcast scrambles (?!?!?!?) digital cable channels. I was dumbfounded why I am paying all this per month for digital cable and cannot set my DVD recorder to record a “free” channel like Noggin. OK, so I will connect it via composite and record with AV-in; I will have to watch as I record, but at least it will work. Nope again – I get a dialog box indicating that it is copy-protected content, and it WON’T RECORD !

I’ve been all over the web looking for help, and found this bit about entering 1397139 and editing Options:

Option 2: 35 (enables Divx/Xvid playback) actually 15 worked on mine
Option 4: ff (enables Vcd and SVCD playback)
Option 5: ff (enables region free playback (region 0) DVD playback)
Option 6: ce (enables Insignia brand startup logo on boot)
Option 6: c0 (enables LG brand startup logo on boot)

Is there a list anywhere of all the available options choices and what they do ?

I am sure there is a way to turn off the annoying macrovision check, and get 4:3 upconverted with pillar boxes. Having my RC797T upconvert over component would be prefered as well.

I want to use this DVD recorder for what I bought it for.

    get this:

I was fiddling with the Option 6 choice, and I got a ZENITH startup screen, so I tried more codes and one of them DISABLED the options !

I cannot get back to the options screen.

entering 1397139 while TV aspect 16:9 no longer accesses this screen !

I tried unplugging it overnight, and that did not reset it.
I can still watch Dvix files, so those options must be hardcoded or flashed somehow.

Does anyone have another way to access the 1397139 Options screen ?!?!?!?

    HELP !

Many recorders suffer from the same issues. The number of channels that you can receive/use is dependant upon your cable provider. On a side note, simply upgrading to a DVR supplied by your cable provider for $5-10 a month will solve these issues.

As to the codes, I don't know.
