I am looking for a general DVD authoring suite for my father to use. Ease of use and low price trump high-end capability. Price range maxes out around $100.

One feature that is necessary is the ability to create slide show videos from image files. I downloaded a trial of DVDit Pro 6, and he liked the software's slide show capability.

    Thanks for any help.

I'm happy with TDA (ver 3.0).

It doesn't force you into the menus (as Ulead once did - not certain what it does now, haven't used it since switching)
from a template - you can make many choices once you get familiar with the program.

    Free trial, also: http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda3.html

I simply haven't found many videos it couldn't use for dvd creation.

Look at TDA, Adobe Premiere Elements, Ulead Video Studio 11, Vegas Movie Studio, and Pinnacle Studio. They are all good programs, are easy to learn, and can produce some good quality output. All of them can be found for well under $100.00. Personally, I would go with either Adobe or Vegas.

You may find that the best app for authoring movies is not the best app for authoring slideshows based on your specific needs. I use convertxtodvd and tda for authoring my video files to dvd. I use Photodex Proshow for creating slideshows from my images which I then output as mpg2 and author with tda. it works for me but poke around the tools section and try different ones until you find what works for you.
