hello im new here and not sure where to post so here i am. i looked around but i cant seem to find the answer so i decided to post. so like the title says i cant seem to burn movies onto -dvd disc. but when i used a positive disc it worked just fine. i know what you're thinking. why not use the positives only? but others can use the negatives so why not? i also purchased a 50 pack so i dont have that much data to store ;/ maybe im doing something wrong? the dvds are also from the same company and the same speed. i used convertxtodvd for the 2 other movies. i also have a screen shot so maybe that might help? thanks for any help

There are many possible reasons. But you have not provided any information to use in helping you.

    What is your burner?
What DVD+R media have you burned correctly?
What DVD-R media have you been unable to burn?

All burners are not equal. All media is not equal.

Staples disks are low on the quality tree,
You need to study up on blank media quality.

Suggest you start here ......... http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/

Staples uses CMC to make their media, which means it's probably junk. Take a look at http://www.nomorecoasters.com for info on media quality.

This is an OLD drive. In theory it is supposed to support both DVD-R and DVD+R. I'd blame your media. Around here we usually recommend Taiyo Yuden (you will have to mail order them) or Verbatim (you might be able to buy them in a store like Best Buy) for best results.

The differences between DVD-R and DVD+R are marginal with DVD-R having marginally better compatibility with standalone DVD players. I would suggest using better media, although if your player doesn't like to burn DVD-R discs (it was really hard to get info on this old burner, but one source claims it will burn both + and - discs), you may have to only buy DVD+R discs. Your player is old enough that when it came out, there were burners made that only burned either + or - discs and not both. You might also consider just getting a new burner as you can buy good burners these days for $25 or even less.

Short answer, you burner doesn't support the media that you are trying to use. Switch media or get a new/different burner.

Verbatim 100 spindle for $19 after rebate at buy.com. you need a promo code from Ben's Bargain else it's $24 AR. that's 19 cents per high-quality disc. bet you paid more at Staples for the CMC.

    good luck.

Staples CMC media has in my experience shown more physical problems with the disk than Name Branded CMC media (HP, Imation, TDK etc.). Look at the edges and the center and you may see unevenness or other imprefections.

Take it back to staples for a refund.

As for your drive - I have my doubts that it will be able to get good results on 16x versions of quality media. Certainly not without firmware updates. A new drive is about $30. In the short run it may be cheaper to buy a new drive than to attempt to find media which works via trial and error. Checkout www.newegg.com particularly for LG and Samsung drives which may offer you the widest number of media choices.

When money is tight, don't throw good money after bad.

You can take them back include the bad burned disk. People do it all the time and they will accept it. The media has a warranty and if you call their tech support they'll just tell you to take it to the store and return it.
