Hello everyone. First off, sorry if this has been asked before. I did a extensive search but could not find the information that I am looking for. I recently purchased an XBox 360 and am running a MCE. My hope is to record programs using my HVR-1600 on my MCE Computer and stream them to the XBox.

At this point I cannot get the MC on the computer to play any of the HD videos at all. I have tried several of the touted MPEG-2 decoders but nothing allows the videos to play. My ultimate goal is to not have to re-encode any of these videos to get them to work. I want to record them while I am at work and be able to pull them up on the 360 and watch them right away without having to go through the extra process of running them through another piece of software first.

Any ideas? I have spent enough cash attempting to make this work the way I hope and I cannot seem to get it to work.

    Thanks,
    Jason

I had looked into that, but wanted to keep the HD quality. Thanks for the idea, but still hoping to find a decoder that will allow me to stream it to the Xbox in full HD.

Is it mpeg2 ts files? Then you can try hdtv pump, see http://www.runtime360.com/forums/read.php?3,2227,2408 maybe works with mpeg2 files also.

ANd I guess you checked http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showforum=167 already ?

    Jayflap,

Either record or convert to divx/xvid and the 360 will play - not stream - it natively. The update to enable this went through just a few days ago. Tested it last night with some old divx/acs files and it worked perfectly. I didn't try through the MCE (Media Center Extender) on the 360 but just Media -> Video -> Computer. I shared the required folders via WMP11.

Even had some .mkv files (divx/ac3) work as well. Used mkvextractgui to strip out the audio and video, muxed together with AVImux and voila!. One was 640x480 and another 1920x1080, both looked sweet. Luckily no recoding so the conversion from .mkv to .avi was pretty quick, under a minute for a 2gb file.

Now if the 360 could just do mpeg1 and mpeg2 I wouldn't have to convert anything...
    Have a good one,

    neomaine
