Hi all,
I've been using shrink for about 95% of the DVDs i backup. When i run into problems i generally use RipIt4Me+DVD Decrypter. Occasionally i get those false bup/ifo files that just will not rip. In this situation i generally just rip movie or movie+menus and don't have problems. However, i've run into a TV disk that i can only rip each title at a time.
I installed DVDfabD free and every time i try to read the disk on startup, the program just shuts down at about 15% reading disk.
I looked around CD freaks for about an hour and checked my DMA--all primary and secondary devices are set for DMA--and looked into conflicting programs. (I also turned off system restore on all four drives.) I found that PC Friendly activision crap and removed it and restarted comp. I'm still getting the same problem.
I searched my computer for any other conflicting programs and am not finding anything. Does anyone have an idea why this may be happening or have some sort of suggestion or link to help. This is driving me crazy, especially because the ripping problems have become more prevalent over the last six months and i fear it will only increase in the future.
Thanks in advance for any help,
ACLUguy
Postscript: I know i can simply reauthor them and burn together in Shrink, it's just that i know it will become more time consuming in the future, so i'd like to get dvdfabd working.

In Common settings>DVD read > check " Ignore all reading errors automatically'..see if that helps...
what flicks are giving you probs?" Who needs Google, my wife knows everything" -
Thanks for the help. It's still shutting down as it's reading the disk.
It's been several newer movies like Sony movies, Disney movies or the last season disk in several tv series.
I've got the two episodes ripped and reauthored together with Shrink, but the menus and an hour of extras are also a big bonus that i can't get.
Thanks again.
Quick Update: DVDfab HD Decrypter works with the disks i can open in shrink, but not the ones that i have to use RipIt4Me + DVD Decrypter to read. (The message i get in Shrink is "the parameter is incorrect" and in RipIt4me + DVD Decrypter i get an error ripping/reading one of small "false" bup/ifo files, that's why ripping movie instead of full disk in RipIt4Me works.) The disks never appear to be scratched either; i've brassoed and windexed them, they work fine in a DVD player without any frame skips. It's odd that DVDFab Decrypter would just shut down like that, you think it would give an error or something. -
You mention DVDfab HD decrypter works, then DVDFab decrypter shuts down. HD is the latest 4.0.2.0 version...use that one....
Also you say, "works with the disks i can open in shrink". do you mean rip with DVDFab HD decrypter and successfully open in shrink?...please clarify...
The method that works for me, rip DVDFab HD Decrypter >shrink>Imgburn.
If it fails in shrink I'll run it through FixVTS first then open in shrink, but that's rare...occasionally I may need to run the FixVTS file through VOBblanker..." Who needs Google, my wife knows everything" -
I'm wondering if this could be something residual in the registry from that PC Friendly video player or another program that the movie industry/computer industry uses to keep people from backing up their movies. Does that seem plausible?
I've been doing a little more digging and the problem is still eluding me.
All of the suggestions on DVDfab Decrypter forum at cdfreaks have me running around in circles and DVDfab Decrypter FAQ doesn't seem to mention this specific problem... Perhaps i should post there or contact them . -

I'm not seeing a remove useless cells in the HD version. Everything in common settings is checked. It still just closes without any error messages or alerts.
(I've got the two shows backed up, so it's not like it's a total loss or as if it's incredibly urgent, i'd just like to get it working since it's the "best" free program for newer encryption.)
I'll try it on my other computer and see what happens, if it works there then i've got to have some sort of software related problem.
Thanks again for your help and patience. Again, i'm sorry if i didn't explain the problem all too well earlier. -
Click" Common settings" the little wheel like icon top right ,then under DVD (left side) click "Protection" there at the bottom you'll see "Remove useless cells" and check it...
Edit: if you don't see it then you're not using the latest version now at 4.0.2.0" Who needs Google, my wife knows everything" -
I am using the newest beta version of DVDfab HD Decrypter--the version you suggested. I'm still not seeing remove useless cells. The version is 4.0.2.0 Beta. (for confirmation see this image.)
I've tried the newest non-HD version as well and ran into the same problem.
I'm fairly adapt with computers and dvds. I am leaning to this being a problem with something sinister, from the movie industry or electronics industry, conflicting with the program causing a shutdown when it sees a specific encryption.
I really appreciate your help with and attention to such a strange problem. Hopefully i can make some headway with this on the other system; i'm going to try a fresh windows install on my old comp (since it's set up almost identically) and see if that does anything. If it does, i'll keep everyone updated--hopefully it can help someone in the future...
