Im using mermorex and verbatim media. I tried nero and imgburn and both failed. imgburn worked with one movie but now nothing
will burn and my hard drive is full with movies that need to be burned. please help.

You should have a 'burn log' with both Nero and ImgBurn. You might see the cause there. The lasers for DVD and CD are separate, so you may have a dead DVD laser.

There are several errors shown there:

    5:02:39 PM #2 DVDREALLOC 1 File DVDVideoCompilation.cpp, Line 1263

    5:02:39 PM #3 Phase 115 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1762

    5:03:19 PM #27 CDR -1135 File Writer.cpp, Line 312
    Write error

The 'reallocation' error is the main one. That is usually caused by a structure error in your VIDEO_TS folder. One method I've used in the past is to run it through IFOEdit and attempt to repair the files. The rest of the errors may be related to that. The 'MEDIUM' error usually means your burner doesn't have a write strategy for your media. But, in this case, it could also be the earlier errors causing that one.

Since I can't find the right IFOEdit guide at the moment and I haven't used the program in a while, you might try a different method. Try running the VIDEO_TS folder through DVD Shrink, with no compression and re-author it. Then see if you get the same error.

Alternately, if you have a known good VIDEO_TS folder, try burning that. The problem may still be the burner after all this, but that log calls your VIDEO_TS folder into question and also, to a lesser extent, your DVD media brand.

This is your reported media brand and ID. You can check the ID in 'DVD Media' to the left. Plug that '004' into the 'Search Media Code' box.

Disc Manufacturer ID: MCC, Media Type ID: 004, Product revision number: 0

But, bottom line, make sure your VIDEO_TS file is correct first, then give it another try. Same errors with a known good file, and different media, then I would suggest looking for a new burner.

Burners can wear out and they don't last forever. The more you use a drive to rip and burn, the sooner it will reach the end of its life. I don't know how old your burner is nor how heavily you use it, but I do want to point out that it's possible that the drive is just wearing out. DVDs and CDs use different lasers, which would explain why you aren't having problems with audio CDs.

i ran the VIDEO_TS folder through DVD Shrink with no compression and put in a memorex disc and burned it with imgburn and it worked. I tried to burn it again with a verbatim disc and it errored out. I still get the reallocation error with Nero. I tried to burn another movie with imgburn and i got the error again. Am i ripping it wrong? is it my media or is it the burner?

Well, that's sounding better for your burner. A few things you might try: Unplug your computer and replug all your drives, and all other internal connections, making sure the connectors are properly seated. And next, replace your IDE cable to the drive. Make sure it's a 80 conductor cable, the same as on most hard drives. A older 40 conductor cable looks similar in appearance to a floppy drive cable, only wider. The 80 conductor cable has finer wires. The plugs are the same for both.

Also check your power supply. If it's a lower power ~200 watt, consider replacing it with at least a 400W PS. DVD burning takes a bit more power, though you would usually get a 'Power Calibration Error' with a substandard PS. Still, if the PS is 250W or so, I would still upgrade it.

The OS has all the needed drivers, so it would be unusual for it to be a driver issue. You can try firmware upgrades, but that doesn't often cause the type of problems you are reporting.

Sorry, that's about all I can think of. Hope that helps.

Media or the burner? If you have the $$, I would probably replace the DVD drive. Drives are inexpensive at this point, often ~$30US. A newer burner would often work better with more brands of media. And would burn faster most times.

    But it's up to you.

I bought the LG Model: GSA-H55N. As a new Writer it is fast but Not too sure about LG's reliability. But for $37 I figure what the hell. I plan on building myself another new system, one with dual core processor, sata drives, with about 3 gigs of ram, and a good motherboard And would like to learn more about reliable brands of hardware to build a PC. ( not too expensive)

If you're going to build a INTEL CORE2DUO system check out the GIGABYTE motherboards.

To Hittz GIGABYTE is the brand name of the motherboard. Their motherboards are great for those INTEL CORE2DUO processors. I own 2 different models. Here's the links for them from Newegg.com.

I like Epox motherboards. They don't get a lot of cudos, but some of my truegeek (and proud of it) buddies tell me "I've never heard anything bad about Epox." I run one and it's just fine.

Don't skimp on the power supply, either.

I'm also kind of fond of NEC hardware (i.e. burners). It all began with an NEC VCR I bought in the late 80's. I nursed that dog along into the 21st century when I finally bought my first JVC. I have two NEC DVD burners that perform admirably.

    Just suggestions...

Thanks for the links Budz I will check it out, It is also informative to hear what others are using and suggesting. I presently have a ECS (Elitegroup) P4M800-M I dont know if its a decent brand or not and would like to know. I would like something reliable yet inexpensive. (not to be used for games)

Checked out the links but as I knew there is a very large range of boards to choose from. Maybe theres a thread here called how to choose a motherboard? Thanks also dadrab for the suggestions, any info I can get to make a better choice helps. Im open to suggestions

ESC aren't rated very well but I did build a cheap computer with it then sold it to a friend. In my honest opinion a good quality motherboard will go a long way than a cheap one. I don't do any sort of gaming but those 2 GIGABYTE motherboard links I posted are good quality for INTEL CORE2DUO processors. You could always go with a AMD AM2 processor and GIGABYTE has a good motherboard for it as well.
