Some of the files I have attempted to convert from MKV H264 to XVID AVI have audio/video sync issues that get progressively worse as the video plays. I suspect this is an issue with Variable Frame Rate (VFR) MKV but I cannot be sure.

Here are the steps I am using to convert:

    1) Extract audio and video tracks from mkv
    2) Run H264 file through avc2avi
    3) Open avi in VirtualDubMod, add audio stream, configure Xvid encoding, and select "Change so video and audio durations match"

What is the best way to tell if an MKV is in VFR format vs. CFR?
