I am trying to capture still images from the MPEG format. The video editing program that I am using is Magix 2006 Deluxe Plus.
This program is able to capture still images from my video camera off the DV tape. However, I have a Samsung L700 still camera that also takes MPEGs and stores them on a SD memory card. The memory card is not recognized as a "Video Source" (which is necessary for the uptake of still pictures) by the Magix program. Therefore it is not possible to get a still picture from the MPEG format in this way.
I looked in the help section of Magix and could not find information on how to extract the images I would like and also could not find it in other softwear programs.
How does one go about producing JPEG or other picture formats from MPEG or other video formats?

Media Player Classic can grab stills from mpeg files
Image Grabber II might be able to (haven't tested it with mpeg files)
That said, I suspect that the camera actually captures using mjpeg, which is not quite the same. You are probably missing the right codec, which is what is stopping your other software from playing it back.Read my blog here.

Thank you for your suggestion. I downloaded the Media Player Classic and it saves the images nicely.

I use VirtualDub, as it does not alter the image quality.
