LG RH245B Region Hack?

Hello! FIrst post, didn't find anything on this model anywhere online.

I am thinking of bying this one but I really need to know if it can play my wife's Region 1 DVDs as well as my Region 2 ones. Basically I just want to know if and how to make it region free.

If you can't find a hack, there may not be one. All DVD players can't be made region free. Philips players usually are easy to make region free. Note also that some players may have hacks that did work at one time, but a firmware change by the manufacturer will break the hack.

They aren't cheap, but http://www.oppodigital.com makes some DVD players that many here like. They do very good PAL<->NTSC conversion and come standard as region free.

I would prefer an LG recorder because of the simple fact that our TV is LG and it would work on the same remote. Shallow, yes, but there you have it

As noted above by jman, not all drives can be unlocked. Assuming the recorder can even perform NTSC to PAL conversion (again, not all players can convert between formats, hence the region code lock in the first place), then all you need to do is make a backup copy of your discs removing the region code of the DVD.

Also, most TV/cable/SAT/AVR remotes have codes to support other hardware. So sticking with the same brand isn't really necessary. And from personal experience, even hardware from the same manufacturer isn't a guarantee the remote will function correctly.

I'm not sure whether the region hack for Asia model is it applicable to your set or not.Asia model is LG RH1777WS,LG RH 1988WS,LG RH1F99WS,those set selling in the mega store have pasted a region hack procedure on the box,teach you step by step how to make the set region free.Below are the procedure:

On the remote control:
Press "Home"
Press "Setup"
Press "Auto Programe" for a second,than press "Enter" to stop it
Move left come down to "LOCK" Icon
Press" 0" more than 7 times
Congratulation message will appear
Press "Enter"
Press "Setup" to clear the interface
Press "OFF"

That will set the recorder to region free.
