What are you trying to do? Are you trying to hard code subtitles into your video so that they can't be turned off? Are you trying to have selectable subtitles but have them muxed into the video file? The only thing that works reliably for Divx subtitles is to have them in a separate file and NOT have them muxed into the video. You will then need a program like VLC Media Player that can read the subtitles file and the video file at the same time for playback or a standalone DVD player that can read the subtitles file. Note that stand alone DVD players are often fussy about Divx subtitles files. Some require the subtitles file to have exactly the same name as the video file. For example, your Divx file might be called mymovie.avi, so your subtitles file needs to be called mymovie.srt (or whatever format you have). I have found that SRT subtitles format generally works best for Divx. Other formats may or may not work. I know nothing about AviNet, but hopefully these suggestions will help you.

After reading your reply, it's obvious to me that you are not very experienced at all. I'm not criticizing you as we all have to start somewhere. One issue is that what you have is what is called "forced subtitles" in the original movie. This is when subtitles pop up whether you want to see them or not because someone is speaking another language - that's why they are called "forced" - they are forced on. I have no idea why AviNet is not encoding the forced subs, nor do I know how to tell it to do so. Its default behavior may be to ignore all subs unless told to encode them. You may find it problematic to have it only encode the forced subs and you really should encode this kind of thing as hard subs that are part of the video stream.

My suggestion to you is that due to the unusual nature of this film (forced subs) and your lack of experience that you simply not turn this into Divx and you make a backup copy of the DVD in DVD format and get on with your life and worry about converting less troublesome films to Divx. Is it REALLY worth spending say 8 or more hours working at this just to finally figure out how to make it work like you want? Frankly I value my spare time and I'd rather just use up a whole DVD blank to copy the stupid film instead of spending hours and hours trying to get AviNet to work just so I can put more than 1 film on a DVD. I have learned that many people here place no value at all on their spare time and if you are such a person, then you will need to figure out how to get AviNet to encode only the forced subs in the movie as hard coded subs in your Divx output file. It will take a long time and probably a lot of trial and error to get this to work.
