Basically my DVD drive is capable of writing DVD-R media at 16x.

I have a blank 16x DVD-R in the tray but the maximum speed which it says it can write the disc is only 4x

I've updated the drives firmware to the latest version but still the same.

The DVD drive is this one.

The drive firmware probably lacks a write strategy for the media.

You can confirm this by finding the mediaID for this media my using DVDInfo or Nero Infotool.

Then check to see if there is a write strategy in the drive using MCSE and an image of the latest firmware.

If there is not, you can attempt to create a strategy using MCSE. The strategy you create may not be useful if the media is not similar in its characteristics to the mediaID you choose to duplicate.

There is lots of discussion of MCSE on www.cdfreaks.com.

Your needs might be better served by using name-brand media or replacing your aged drive.

    Thanks for the fantastic information.

I've successfully managed to add 16x capability to the media and just did a burn successfully!

    Thanks

You may eventually want to re-think using bulkpaq media - it looks like it could be sketchy.
