dvd recorder problem

Hi. I have a panasonic dmr-e80h dvd recorder and my problem is ive had this recorder for about 4-5 years but i just switched it to a brand new tv and it does not seem to want to work. i first thought the batteries in the remote were going but it is not that. When i hit play or fast forward or when im editing the machine basically freezes and then i have to hold power to restart it again. If anyone could help me as why this is happening and if theres anything I can do to fix it i would really appreciate it. Thanks

Is your new tv interlaced or progressive? I know you need to set your tv to match the recorder.
