    Hi all,

am totally new to world of media files. It's not long time ago since I downloaded the SUPER but have no experience at all handling media files or what these stands for (e.g. what's the difference between the avi and mpg?). Anyhow, what am trying to do is to convert videos i download from the well known sites (youtube, metacafe) and convert them into that format that allows me to send them via email (so small size is needed). So, I'd really appreciate it if 1)someone could help me on this query and 2) if someone could give me a brief guide (or a weblink where i can read it by myself) what all these formats stand for.

I am sorry if something similar has been posted before and if this is not the appropriate forum to post it. I've just registered

    Thank you in advance

AVI and MPEG are container names. What identifies the format is the codecs used to encode them, both video and audio.

If you look in our 'Glossary' to the upper left on this page, you should find some definitions. YouTube videos are already small, you're not going to compact them much further without a fair amount of quality loss.

That said, look to our 'Newbie Conversion' Forum.

    Also look through our guides.

    And welcome to our forums.
