  1. Hi,

Some time ago I bought a Samsung DVD-SH853 recorder. Overall I'm happy with it, except for some minor issues. I suppose there's no perfect recorder

My question is about the recorded DVDs. I thought I could record some TV shows on a DVD and then play the recorded DVD files on the computer. But when I put the recorded DVD on the computer, it simply says the DVD has no format, and thus I can't see what's in it... I imagine the recorder uses some special DVD formatting or something like that, and thus the DVDs are only readable by itself.

Maybe this is normal, I don't know. But... is there any player, conversor ot whatever that can allow me to see what's on the recorded DVDs using my computer??

Thanks, and sorry if my question is silly, obvious, or has been asked 100 times. I did a search and found nothing...

    Greetings,

    Toni

Can you play your DVD on another stand-alone DVD player (besides your DVD recorder)?
Also check your PC's DVD drive spec to see if can read the DVD format of your DVD (DVD+R, DVD+RW, etc.). Most PC's DVD drives can read all formats, but not all of them.

  3. The first and most common question on this subject is...

Did you "finalize" the DVD in the DVD recorder before trying to play it on other equipment?

99.9% of the time it's because the disc was NOT finalized in the standalone recorder.

  5. RowMan and Noahtuck, you are right! I didn't finalize my DVD. In fact, I even didn't know it was needed, nor possible! Yes, I know, RTFM! If I finalize the DVD then I have no problem at all for playing it on the computer.

In fact, I always use the HDD to record instead of DVDs. But one of my friends asked me to record a show for him, so I recorded it to a DVD. It was my first one!

    Thanks to Ollie6431 too!
