I have started editing some high school highlight films for some people and I have had a lot of people asking if they can just send me their mini DVDs. How can I get mini DVD footage into a editor? Is the only option to put them into a video camera and capture it to my editing program? If you can't tell I am a big newbie. Thanks.

Use a mpeg/dvd editor like mpeg video wizard or ulead dvd workshop or convert the dvd to one mpg file with vob2mpg that you can either import directly in many editors or convert to dv-avi with for example virtualdub-mpeg2. https://forum.videohelp.com/topic224833.html
