You shouldn't need any additional codecs as VLC uses it's own. And it should work well for most any video.

Here's a link to a review of some Mac bittorent clients: http://torrentfreak.com/mac-bt-clients/

Azureus may be the easiest to set up, but not the fastest in use.

    And welcome to our forums.

    also don't forget Merkonk's excellent MoKgVm2DVD program,
that converts mkv's to xvid avi files for editing, and you can
also install Perian 1.0 for native Quicktime playback of mkvs.

Debian codec?!? Debian is a Linux distribution. I don't think a codec by that name exists. VLC should easily do what you want.

Yes, this is what sucks on Macs - there are a million tools to do something on Windoze and maybe 1 or 2 on Mac and if those tools don't work for you, you are out of luck.

Make sure your Perian Codec is version 1.0.
the 1.0 version added support for .mkv, .ogm, and
.flv files to play natively in Quicktime Player.

In my opinion, Transmission is by far the best BitTorrent client available for the Mac. Well, at least, it is by far the most "Mac-friendly" client, as Azureus may be the most powerful.
