    Directly on your computer?
    DVD player?

And if it's on your TV, is it an HDTV?

I actually find dvdrips HORRIBLE on my 40'' LCD. I was wondering if you guys are watching them in another way.

    Another Yoda Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh...

    I don't buy DVD's so I don't have any rips.

If these are rips from your own collection then you are doing something wrong as they should be just as good as the commercial version. If they are rips you have downloaded this problem doesn't exist if you pay for it.

If you simply "rip" a DVD to your computer...it is an exact copy with ZERO quality changes.
What is needed here (by you) is a better understanding of the terminology or just a
    post/question that is more specific.

if you are getting poor quality from your copies that you made then you just need to change your prosess. basic stuff. remove all extras and all subs you dont need all extra sound tracks you dont need. and use multi pass vbr. any movie under 2 hours should look fine if done like that.there are so many pgms that do it im not gonna tell you how becasue they are all different.

I have a 42" LCD and backups look the same to me.

Some people find DVDs on LCD TVs to be inferior to the displays on CRT based TVs.

Some people find upconverted images on LCD and Plasma TVs to be unwatchable (independant of where the upconversion is done),

Some people only find HD broadcast and HD-DVD/Blueray as the only full screen displays on the HD TVs which are watchable.

Try turning off upconversion in your TV or DVD player and see if you prefer the images.

There is also the possiblity that the resolution of your TV sucks - that is the pixel size. You may also have ghosting due to slow refresh. There are really cruddy LCD TVs on the market.

hello. i think the best way will be to rip it to your hard disk using anydvd with dvd shrink.when you use dvd shrink in preferences change 4.7gb(default) with common(=ex:9gb), then make deep analysis and rip it to your hard disk.after use convertxtodvd or similar programs to transcode it to the resolution of your tv(=ex:1200x800etc).if you have avi you can transcode it using avi2dvd(=freeware)better guality but more time.
