I have a copy of a home video on dvd from a friends wedding.
I have been trying to copy it onto my pc so that I may edit it.
I made the copy myself with Sonic. However no matter what I use now to
copy it for editing it just doesn't seem to work. Being a novice at this I might be trying too hard? Used Sonic, Videowave 7, Uleadvideostudio 11, windows movie maker, everything I can think of and can't get started. I tried getting help from the pc people, they gave me a link for sonic that they swore would help me step by step. well not helping. please advise.I have a copy of a home video on dvd from a friends wedding.

Copy the Video_TS folder from the DVD to your HDD. You should be able to do this simply using Windows Explorer, but if there are errors, try using DVDFab HD Decrypter.
Once you have the contents on your HDD, use VOB2MPG to extract the video and audio from the VOB files as a single mpg file. From here you should be able to edit, however you should take care to use a dedicated Mpeg editor to avoid re-encoding needlessly and reducing quality.Read my blog here.
