Hi guys,
I just finished a movie, in HD, which is about 100 minutes long (720p). In Vegas 8, I can render that as a blu-ray movie at about 11GB (at 1080p, no option for less), which is too much for a normal DVD-R. Is it possible to render it as a 720p file, which would definitely decrease the file size, and possibly also change the bitrate to get it to fit on a normal DVD-R disc?
Any help is appreciated. I don't need menus, just the movie to go on a lightscribe disc (and I haven't seen any dual-layer lightscribe discs).
Thanks,
Alex

You can get it to fit just like you can get any <4.7GB file to fit on a DVD. It will NOT play on a standard DVD player, however. And it won't play on a Blu Ray player, either. It'll just a big file stored on a physical DVD.

Resolution (1080p vs. 720p) has absolutely NOTHING to do with file size. This is a common mistake. Bitrate is the only factor that has anything to do with file size. It would seem according to your profile that you asked one question when you joined the forum almost 4 years ago and then vanished. Had you stuck around, you would have learned that only bitrate influences file size. If you REALLY want to learn how to do things with video like make your own BluRay discs, you might want to consider sticking around and just reading various posts that interest you. You can learn a lot that way.
One source I found implies that dual layer DVD is OK for BluRay but single layer is not. There are no dual layer lightscribe discs at this time. I don't know if they will ever exist. So it appears that you can burn BluRay to a dual layer burnable DVD disc, but that disc won't be a lightscribe disc. -
jman98, just because I don't hang around on a forum doesn't indicate that I have vanished. The only reason I use forums is to ask questions that someone may have the answer for who hasn't written a guide on the topic or something.
No reason to get upset because I don't hang around on your internet town... I am aware that the bitrate has everything to do with the size... notice how I indicated that the bitrate was constant in Vegas? My assumption was that if I had the option for a lower resolution, it would have an appropriate bitrate for that resolution, because the same bitrate would produce higher quality video if the resolution is smaller (<- see how I understand that?! isn't that cool?)
If I REALLY want to learn things, I will try them myself until I run into a wall and then I'll ask someone who may know something about it. Not someone who is looking for deficiencies in questions to inform them that the community aspect of a forum is worth their time. Thanks. I guess.
