    Hello gurus,

I plan to buy an Onkyo receiver (TX-SR605) which promises to upconvert analog inputs into 1080p using a Faroudja DCDi chipset.

However, the input signals in my country are in PAL while my LCD 42" FHDTV screen is an NTSC only unit. For day-to-day viewing I will be converting the input PAL signal into NTSC so that the monitor can display the signal (ComWorld 1500 - basic box).

HOWEVER, if I push the NTSC analog signal from the converter into my receiver will the TX-SR605 still be able to upconvert into 1080p and send it to the LCD TV?

I am not sure if it matters what the input signal (PAL vs. NTSC) is for HD Upconversion?

Could you please clarify for me what I am missing here and if I am about to blow a lot of money on worthless h/w?

Onkyo themselves have not responded to my questions about clarifying this.

    Thanks!

    G

Actually, according to the spec sheet http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=TX-SR605&p=f&class=Receiver and from what I've read other places, this unit "upconverts" analog inputs to 480i / 480p (NOT 1080p).

The DCDi chipset is capable of NTSC/PAL conversion and is used in the better DVD players. I haven't seen any references anywhere concerning whether or not the receiver can perform the conversion, but it should be possible.
