  1. Sitting here surfing the web... I notice the fan on the side of my case as well as my heat sink fan "revving" up and down... is that an indication of the sites I go to or that something is happening behind the scenes... I have a add in video card so memory should not be shared..

See my post about web browsing... Still haven't figured that one out...

Another Friday... fixing or trying to fix s**t....

it may indicate that heat is being produced and not being shed. it could be time to open up the case and vacuum out the dust bunnies. be sure to remove the fan from the cpu hsf and thoroughly clean the heat sink with a soft brush attachment to the vacuum.

  4. Ya... thanks for the reply but already did that... I started a topic about my d/l speeds and that is what prompted my noticing the fans and the change in pitch (for lack of a better word)...

If I boot in "safe" mode I can surf, etc w/o the fan working so hard....

Might be time to backup n reinstall...
    Got any other ideas lmk.....

If it is not happening in safe mode it sounds like something could be running behind the scenes loading the CPU.

You could try everest, the trial version is good for a month. Leave it running while you go about your biz and collect fan speed, temps, voltages and cpu load. I don't remember for sure but I think the log can also record what is running at any given point in time.

did you look at what using the cpu cycles? ctrl-alt-del to bring up task manager click processes tab double click "cpu" to sort the highest cpu hogs to the top.

  8. Thanks! Taking all your advice into my search... some things I've already done... viruses, etc... Now I'm just trying to monitor cpu cycles, temps and the fans...
