  1. Hey everyone,

I bought a new Pioneer S53 DVD player. I burnt an avi that I converted to VCD and it played fine, but all my DVD-R that are created from .img files are only showing up in black and white. Regions match for both the DVD and .img (DVD are R1 and player bought in US) files. Aside from the lack of color they are also shifted down about 20% and seem to have some faint horizontal banding. Tried both Nero and BurnImg, but exact same output. The DVD-R plays fine on my PCs dvd drive.

No issues with store bought DVDs.

    Thanks for any help

PAL video being played on an NTSC system.

Region Coding and format are two diff. issues.

  3. Thanks for the response. How can I confirm that the .img is a pal image instead of an NTSC? I've had format isues before on another DVD Player and the Pal video on an NTSC system was unviewable. Maybe this DVD player is better at the Pal format, but I can watch it just fine, it is just in b&w.

  4. Mount the image with daemontools or VirtualCloneDrive, then play using Media Player Classic and look at the video properties - PAL will show as 50 Hz, NTSC as 60 Hz. Or, if you have a Sony DVP-NS575P player handy, stick in the disk - if the display reads "CANNOT PLAY" then it's not NTSC.

A little simpler. Just drop the image, ISO, MDF, BIN into Gspot 2.70. The Frames/s will be 29.970 or 23.976 for NTSC or 25 Frames/s for PAL. There's lot of other useful info there also.
