  1. Hello.

I have a digital camera (Fuji FinePix S9500) which records photos (JPEG) and videos (AVI). I would like to burn them (photos AND videos) to a DVD-R on my PC, without greatly compromising their quality. This DVD should be readable by my home DVD player/recorder (Panasonic DMR-ES15).

I believed Nero PhotoShow Deluxe version 5 would do this job: its MAKE - DVD and CD ROM feature is intended to do so. But it fails ("video export failed"). Nero PhotoShow's manual and FAQs don't say a word about this problem. Worse, Nero's tehcnical support by e-mail has so far done its best to evade my questions and provide a solution.

I have read over the web several posters where users tell they are facing the same problem with Nero PhotoShow Deluxe ( DON'T BUY IT !).

So I'm stuck here ... does anybody know a reliable piece of software, not necessarily free, that will work fine ?

I thank all those willing to help me.

I use an old version of Ulead Movie Factory 2SE for slideshows to DVD. There are quite a few free slideshow makers out there but I believe you will need to make the output DVD compatible on your own.

  3. I frequently shoot jpegs and video clips with my digital camera. I then put together a 'slide show' with the video either seperate or interspersed throughout the show. Often I add music and time it to the jpegs or sections of jpegs, sometimes fading the music down for the video audio to come through sometimes not.

To do all of this I use Proshow Gold (actually I just upgraded to the pro version to able to have more layer control).

Very easy program to use and it creates nice menus too. If I need a fancier menu I reauthor the output with TMPGEnc DVD Author.

You can download a demo of proshow from their website. The products are listed in the tools section.

I'm not at all a fan of the Nero products, though at one time I was

Do a search for "slide" in the tools section, you will get this list.

I prefer DVD slideshow GUI myself, not only because it is free but because it is nice to work with and it supports both JPEGs and AVIs. Tastes vary, take a good look at the list before choosing. Whatever you do: download trial versions of the programs to evaluate before buying!
