  1. i have re-authoured a dvd to my hard drive using dvd shrink
however when i try to join the VOB files in DLP it refuses to
join the last file and gives the error message: failed to join VOB files, Disk full?
however, there is 30GB of space available on my hard drive.
i am then left with a joined VOB file with the end of the movie cut off
is there any other freeware software that can join vob files
or should i convert the files to another format and join the resulting
    files?
    thanks for your help

Is you HDD formatted for NTFS or Fat32 ? If it is Fat32 you have a 4GB file size limit which would produce the problem you are seeing.

Otherwise, try using VOBMerge, or VOM2MPG.

will VOBMerge be able to sort this prob, or is there another way around
    it?

It's about 10:15 pm here, and no, none of these will fix your problem.

You can convert your HDD to NTFS using the commandline Convert tool that comes with XP. It is a one way trip though - you can't go back to FAT32 after you change. I also strongly suggest you back up your important files first as a precaution, and that you defrag afterwards.

  6. i think ill pass on converting my HDD, too worried about messing things up

quality of the video file isn't that important, so ill just use DVDShrink to
shrink the file to below 4Gigs, that should sort the problem, shouldn't it?

    thanks again.

Another alternative is to get an external HDD and format that as NTFS for these types of conversions. You can pick up 320 GB of space for very little $$'s nowadays.

You can also have Shrink not split the files giving you the one big VOB you want.

I probably missed something here, but why do you want one giant VOB file? VOBs by their structure are about 1GB each. That keeps them from having problems with FAT32 file systems. If you put that one large VOB into a DVD authoring program, it will just chop it back up into 1GB VOB files.

If you are just doing this to use the one file with a video editor, then I could understand.
