So I've moved past my initial problem of my tuner card not working at all with my system, being that I eventually discovered that it wasn't fond of my motherboard.

I got a new card, a Happauge 1600 and it works alright.
But new problems arise. I jacked my PS2 into the tuner card and (using Win-tv stock software) tried to boot up my PS2 using an S-Video Link...The results were vastly underwhelming. The game looked...alright...but there was no sound and a about a second and a half worth of lag between my input of commands and actual response from the game.

I tried this again, using the standard method of the coax-patch cable and got sound, but the same horrible, horrible lag. Is there anything I can do to eliminate this lag? It makes gaming on the card unbearable.

The lag is always there. Feed a TV off your PS2 for play and use the computer to record. There's an audio input on the HVR-1600. S-Video will provide a better picture.

This occurs with all tuner cards. These isn't a fix. The lag is the result of video processing taking place. You can see the same thing by watching the same TV signal on a TV and via software through your tuner card on the pc.

The card was never intended to show you a 100% "live" picture. I have about 3-4 sec delay between what I see using my Hauppage card, and what I see on a TV. That's the way these things work. Split out the TV signal to record on one split, watch & play on the other.

Well, fair enough. Thanks for the feed back though.
The reason I probably seem agitated more than most people on this subject is the fact that my computer IS my entertainment center. I've one monitor for working, one for watching, so to speak. I guess I just had my hopes invested in playing my PS2 on it for a good while, as I've been without a television for about a year.

I suppose this moves outside the realm of tuner-cards, but what would be the preferred method of playing a PS through a computer? Is there a PCI card that is nothing but an S-Video port that I wouldn't have to route through the Tuner? Or, since I have a monitor with DVI and VGA ports, Is there some sort of connection bridge I could use to send the input straight into the monitor?/

You need to bypass the computer to get real time. There are two ways. Feed the game box to a TV, or get a computer monitor that has inputs that match what your PS2 outputs.

Or, you can always dump the PS2 and play games on the PC.

  7. Try the "live preview" patch at this web site:

    http://www.cask-of-amontillado.com/pvr_reg.html#_Enable_Live_Preview

I don't know if it will work for the 1600. It still won't be real time but it will reduce the delay to only a frame or two.

Thats a negative on the Hauppage Tweaker Tools processor override. Tried a couple of different configurations, but it didn't work, I still had the delay.
