hi, i'v got a jvc dr-mh20 standalone & since i cant find newhere to download the firmware to make it region free, i'm stuck with some region 1 disks that I can't watch. Assuming I can mke my HPdvd1040 dvd recorder read the disks, if I back them up to my pc using DVDFab Decrypter then burn them to dvd-r using recode in nero, would they be region free

**(nero recode 2 essentials has an option to 'recode to nero digital' which is mpeg4, would this be the easy way to do it & would there be much loss in quality?)

I very much doubt your JVC will play a disc recorded in Nero's proprietary mpeg4 format.

Yes just rip the disc with the setting to "region free" and you will be set to go.
