  1. I have two speaches, each an hour long (One file). I am putting them on a CD (It's two days of talks, I'm just giving the example of these two).

The file is two hours long. It was suggested to use audacity. I open the 2 hour file. I put the cursor at the end of the first talk. I go to "from coursor to the end" to highlight the second talk. I then cut out the second hour and am left with just the hour, first part.

I export it to another folder and name it. I then go back and do it for the second file. When I'm done, I go and play the first hour. It is the whole 2 hours.

If you have a 1 hour file, save it in audacity, how is it not an hour file? How come audicity can't do a simple edit? Is there a setting or something to get it to do simple editing?

    Thank you,
    Chris.

That seems sort of backward. I would have selected part one by highlighting, then 'Export Selection as WAV'. (Or whatever format you are saving in.) Then selected part two and 'Export Selection as WAV'. But the order doesn't matter. You don't really need to do the cuts if all you want is the two parts as separate files.

  3. Thanks for replying. I did it the way you suggested at first and it didn't work. I deleted the second part to make sure it was gone. That way I only have one file, an hour long.

I deleted the file, go back and try again and I can't save it. audacity says it's write protected. It is not. I go back to the folder and now I have two files (one ".old").

audacity is buggier then ie4 in windows 95b. I can't save any files now. It seems my project I spent last night on is a waste.

  4. I stoped for a while and came back to my project. I took the file, put the cursor at the end of the talk. I did the "from the start to the cursor", highlighted the first talk. I then exported it to a folder. I played it back and it is BOTH talks.

No, you need to "Save Selection As", don't use "Export" or it will save everything.

That will happen if you don't 'Export Selection as WAV'. But there are a few other freeware editors you can try. Maybe Wavosaur or Kristal Audio Engine. But I've used Audacity for several years with no problems like that.

    EDIT:

The key is the 'Selection' part. Export is also for changing output formats, if wanted.

I just saved 2 files from 1 wav using "Export selection as WAV" ,and it works perfectly....
Did you use "Export selection as wav" 0r MP3,as was suggested? while it was highlighted?

  8. Yes, I did it that way. I can't understand why it doesn't work.

  9. I understand why it doesn't work. I knew it was something I wasn't doing right. I spent to long on it and started getting to frustrated.

The problem was when I first tried audacity, the first files where just cutting off a few seconds from the front and end. I used the "export as wav" (another project as mp3). It worked, so I did that with all of them.

Well, if I would of read the next choice, "Save selected to wav, it would of worked.

    Thank you for replying,
    Chris.

I hate Audacity. I use CDWave for splitting and plain old Windows Soundrecorder ( sndrec32.exe ) for joining .wav files.
I occasionally use Goldwave for pitch correction and other simple changes.
