    Hi,

I have a question that i havent been able to get a straight answer on. What should the sample rate be when i'm ripping a audio from a dvd to a .wav file for the best quality.

I have had many different answers on the subject:

If im ripping to copy to cd one person says i should set if for 44.1 khz for the star so i dont convert it again and have a quality loss. Someone else said that i should rip it at 192khz and convert to 44.1 then burn it to cd. Because the dvd is 48.0 khz pcm someone else said i should rip it at 48.0 khz because that is the orginal format.

I'm not really sure what i should do anymore.

Could someone please give a straight answer on what is the best quality sample rate to rip a dvd to cd and also what would the best quality sample rate be to convert later to an mp3 or wma?

Thank You Very Much For Your Time And Effort.
    I Truly Appricitate It.

For simplicity sake rip to 44.1khz wav first then author the cd or do a direct conversion to mp3/wma etc....

Unless you intend to listen to the original ac3's on the computer you'll end up converting to 44.1khz sooner or later so just do it in the first step.

You might want to experiment and see if your mp3 player can handle 48khz wav/mp3 audio. If it can then you would ONLY need to convert to 44.1khz for cd burning.

    You're welcome.

Like I said though if you are also going to be listening to them on a mp3 player it may be worth while to test if it can read 48khz files. Some may be able to. In that case you'd only need to convert to 44.1khz for burning audio cd's.
