Ideal DVD Recorder for this job...

Hello,
I’m interested in buying a DVD Recorder for my PC (SATA connection preferably)
My goal is to create security backups & images of my existing original CD/DVD collection of PC CD/DVD, SONY PS1-CD, SONY PS-2-CD/DVD, SEGA Saturn & as well as my Movie DVDs.

What would be the most accurate DVD-Recorder suitable for the job, which can also by-pass the copy protection found in some PC games?

I’ve read good reviews on the high speed NEC DVD-Recorders, but I’ve heard that they’re not too great when it comes to copying complicated/protected game CD/DVDs.

Any suggestions will be appreciated,

DVD recorders records video, much like a VCR. AFAIK, there is no hardware device that will allow you to magically backup anything you find on CD/DVD into an unprotected version.

I would be interested for a good “3 Sheep” DVD-Recorder that can copy all Safedisk versions etc (capable of correct EFM coding of regular bits), to be able to read/write subchannel data & RAW mode.

I'm beginning to understand what you're getting at. Moving you to the DVD Writer forum.
But then: This site is about video, not backing up PC/console games.
(As for PS1/2 disks (and possibly PS3?) they can be backed up 100% using "any" burner. The problem is that they can't be used as backups without some soft or hardware modification to the console.)

As for consoles , they need modification to be able to run backup's

Ps1 / ps2 , swap disc available .
Xbox = modchip required (go the whole hog and jam a 200gig drive into it to copy games over)
Ps3 / xbox360 = currently unavailable due to being region free , but shouldn't be far away .

Not that I do anything of the kind or play games that often ... lol ... ok , I have an xbox360 .

I just wish when they release games on 4 cds , that they all work when trying to install ... lucky I know how to fix that rot .

Well, I am also interested in making images of my old DOS CD-ROM PC games (which have CD-Audio tracks as well as data) and then re-burn them onto CD accurately.

How about a Plextor CD/DVD-recorder?

I tried making an image of a SONY PS-1 game (Mega Man X3), which features audio tracks as well as data, using the latest CloneCD and my ASUS DVD-ROM-E616P, but this message came up: “ASUS DVD-ROM-E616P doesn’t support reading of 96bytes”



What does this mean; will the final image generated be corrupted?
Which DVD/CD-Recorder should I get to avoid such problems?

That Lite-On DVD-Recorder looks excellent!
If it also supports reading of 96bytes for PS-1 games (As described above), then I'll be getting it.
