Its looking like I may have to replace my family's desktop computer (still trying a few things). Anyway, OfficeDepot has an amazing deal on a Lenovo desktop right now, but I'm a little hesitant, since I've never done much with that brand before. I know they bought their laptop lineup from IBM and have supposedly maintained some real great standards of quality and performance. However, I don't know anything about their desktops. Anyone around here have any experience with them & can either assure me that its okay to go ahead and purchase, or tell me "no" because of bad experience they've had?

We buy Lenovo desktops for our Hospital. We must have hundreds of them. They are fine and do the job. It all comes down to the motherboard and processor. They are ok. My 2ghz machine at home is a tad faster than my Lenovo at work which is 2.8ghz. I have 2gig of memory at work and only 1 gig at home. So its really the board and processor. Haven't had any problems with Lenovo. Don't care for their installed Software Suite which is a care-package of sorts. I uninstalled it as it added crap in the system tray. For the money it is a bargain.

What I've heard is the Thinkpads are still good and the Lenovo brand laptop even feels flimsy. lower cost but flimsy.
If you are going to get a Made In China desktop why not go with a brand name? HP, Dell, etc. -
Dell sucks, I'd totally go with HP 'cause that's what I've bought most of lately and have had minimal problems, but this lenovo deal's a steal, & my fam (parents) don't want to spend much on a new machine.
EDIT: A new power supply fixed the old one! So thanks for the info, but it looks like we'll hold off on a new one for a while.-Tevya

Well if you mean HP laptops then you're lucky with no problems.
There are models with mainboard problems in the power circuitry. The Hinges are flimsy. We've had to do warranty on a couple of the Mobo issue models. Internet research turned up that was a problem with that model(s).
We've done hinges on more than one of their WS models. And of course when the hinges go bad then if the owner is lucky only the plastic housing for the screen gets damaged rather than the screen or wiring to the screen.
Dell had some desktop replacement laptop models that were infamous for heating problems leading to shutdowns. At least there keeping the easy to get at heatsinks & fans clean prevented that.
Difference is that a brand name problematic model is at least easy to get parts and service for. Some small brands are tough.
Alienware service IMHO stinks. as a repair shop you can't even go download drivers. The owner has to have set up and remember their login and then tell us. Then I need to log into their website to download the drivers for that model. They, Alienware, say it is to protect the purchasers privacy. Howcome No other brand that I've run into has that concern?
Last Alienware laptop I had to do was the same as a Sager model so Iwent to Sager and got the drivers that way. PITA
What I'm getting at is every brand has a weak point.
many have a problem with the power connector breaking the solder connection to the mainboard.
If I buy another laptop it'll most likely be a Thinkpad or a Sony based on what I see here. -
We use Lenovo at my office and they work fine. The only complaint I have is something that would not be a problem to you as a home user. Lenovo changes the internals of their PCs constantly, so if we buy model X one month and 4 months later buy 10 more of the same model, they will be using different hardware even though it's the same model. The video card will differ and other hardware will be completely changed. It makes it frustrating for us to try to image new systems.
I have an HP PC at home and while it's a few years old, I can tell you that HP used excellent quality components in it. For an off the shelf system, it was great.
I also would not buy Dell.
