    i have an avi file that i cant play with vlc. I use gspot and this are the info

    under container it is

    File Type: Matroska media file (.MKV)
    Mime Type: video/x-matroska

    under video

    Status: Ready (145 codecs loaded)

    So how shld i play this file?

    If it's a MKV it aint an AVI. Try some of the MKV to AVI guides if VLC can't play it. I'm sure GSpot has more to tell than that it's a MKV - Post a screen shot from GSpot?

    That really doesn't say much - besides GSpot can't really find out anything more than that it seems to be a MKV - which would explain why nothing seems to play it. Have you tried renaming it to .mkv instead of .avi?

    MediaInfo will tell you what's in it. You will need the Haali splitter and perhaps FFDShow to view it.
