I'm really surprised you have a static IP address as nearly all ISPs I can think of use DHCP. However (and assuming you are on a windows machine of some sort) it is changed within the Properties on Network Places (or neighbourhood).
What you then need is to find the TCP/IP entry for your network card, highlight it and open the properties window - Thye IP Address tab then lets you change to address.
Be careful - if you set your IP to the same as one already in use then you'll get conflicts and probably no internet. You might also need to look at changing your Subney Mask once you change your IP. -
Cor you know your stuff!
Is this a long process does it cost anything aswell? -
It's not a long process on the PC - takes a few seconds and maybe a reboot.
As to cost - it's free to change but no guarantee it's gonna work.
It depends how you came by your static IP - whoever administers the network (ie the person who gave you the IP address) can advise you on that and what new IPs are available. -
It's already DHCP.
The only IP is my local network.
I do get another ip which is on www.whatismyip.com it has stayed the same for months now!
I wonder if theyve barred that one!
How do i get access legally or illegally they had no reason to ban me!
Thanks mate!

sorry but just changing your ip address will not work even if you happen to get lucky and find one that is not in use. thing about how many there are? each net user has in ip address all over the world and they are all different.. so good luck with that.. but as i was saying.. you need to have an ip address that is leased in the range of your provider and yor DNS and subnet mask will be affected also.
One last thing im not here to judge but if you were banned then you were banned. even if you feel it was unjust the people in charge dont want you there so i dont think your gonna find anyone here on VH that will help you bypass the ban Sorry.
EDIT: this only applys to your outside IP not you LAN IP that you can make what ever you want. to find what your out ip is go into your router settings and it will be there under setup or IP or something. 99% chance its dynamic but there is no way to know that by looking at it. -
Your DHCP IP is probably just for your local network. Somewhere, you have either another PC or a DSL/cable modem that assigns the IP addresses for your local network. These IP addresses are typically 192.168.x.x.
Your DSL/cable modem (or whatever you use to connect to your ISP) will get an IP address from your ISP. This can either be static or DHCP. It's up to the ISP.
If you have a static IP from your ISP and you change it at your end, you will either:
1. No longer be able to access the internet (often a static IP can be associated with the modem's MAC address to stop people doing what you are trying to do)
2. Conflict with someone else's causing no end of problems for you and them
3. Piss off the ISP such that you get banned from them, too
BTW, if you do change it at your end, you have to configure the modem, not your PC. -
You cannot hide your IP since it's the only way the host has of knowing where to send the data back to. However there are various techniques for disguising or changing your IP.
One obvious one is used by Routers (NAT) which allows many PCs to share one internet IP address. Another is using a Proxy computer which achieves the same effect and is my personal favourite when setting up office networks.
Neither of these help you since they sit between your PC and the internet
However have a look on the net for sites offering advice/help with getting round work/school banned lists. Most of these sites offer anonamous surfing by acting as a gateway. -
You have no "rights" to access any website. All websites are operated at the sole discretion of the site's administrator (or their employers) and they can ban anyone for any or no reason, at any time. Something you did (whether you're aware of it or not), caught the attention of the admin or a mod and eventually resulted in your being banned. Either that or a moderator or admin truly made a mistake. Either way, your best bet to reverse the ban is to write to the site administrator, plead your case and beg for re-admission. If the administrator refuses, he or she will also most likely explain the reason for the ban, if you truly don't know why it happened in the first place. If you still cannot get reinstated then get over it. Life goes on. Find another, similar site and start over.

Even if you're the only PC, check and make sure you're not sharing internet connection at all. My PC was banned from a hardware forum because their forum detected my PC as being from 192.168.0.2 rather than the correct one from my ISP. When I moved to DSL with router and turned off ICS, I was able to connect to that forum again.
